Shaftless Screw Conveyor Applications

KWS Shaftless Screw Conveyors are used in a wide variety of applications to efficiently convey dry, free-flowing, semi-fluid and sticky bulk materials. The shaftless design provides a non-plugging conveying surface by removing the center pipe and the need for intermediate hanger bearings.

The shaftless screw conveyor design can also be used to convey bulk materials at elevated temperatures in a high heat environment such as a kiln or furnace without the need of a shaft seal or bearing on the non-driven end. KWS is the industry leading in providing solutions for a wide variety of processes and applications.

Low Temperature Applications

KWS Shaftless Screw Conveyors convey bulk materials without plugging or causing excessive buildup, making it well suited for efficiently conveying sticky or sluggish bulk materials. The shaftless screw design can also be used as a live bottom or feeder to unload hoppers, bins or silos. Shaftless screw conveyors can also be utilized in the horizontal position as well as any degree of incline and even in the vertical position.

Below are some common low temperature applications for KWS Shaftless Screw Conveyors:

  • Municipal Dewatered Sludge or Biosolids
  • Oilfield Drill Cuttings
  • Food Waste
  • Dewatered Grit or Screenings
  • Filter Press Cake

High Temperature Applications

Bulk materials can be heated or subjected to temperatures as high as 2,100-degrees F in KWS Shaftless Screw Conveyors. Zero-clearance between trough and spiral improves conveying efficiency. KWS Shaftless Screw Conveyors are designed with a drive and shaft seal on one end only, allowing the remaining length of conveyor to be subjected to elevated temperatures.

Materials of construction for many high-temperature applications include 304, 309,310 or 316 stainless steel or high-nickel alloys to retain strength, withstand corrosion and prevent abrasion.

Below are some high-temperature applications such as incineration, gasification or pyrolysis for KWS Shaftless Screw Conveyors:

  • Hazardous Waste
  • Waste Sludge
  • Wood Waste
  • Plastic Waste
  • Shredded Food, Clothing and Paper
  • Char
