Hoppers, Bins and Silos are used to store bulk materials. Storage capacities up to 10,000 cubic feet can easily be handled. Hoppers – Hoppers are typically square or rectangular in shape with an open top for loading purposes. Loading devices such as a front-end loader are used to deposit bulk materials in a hopper.
Bins – Bins are typically square or rectangular in shape and smaller in volume than hoppers. Bins are used for holding a “surge” capacity of a bulk material. Bins provide additional capacity for a conveying system in case a conveyor in the process flow overfeeds a downstream conveyor.
Silos – Silos are typically cylindrical in shape with a closed top and conical or mass-flow discharge bottom. Silos are used to store large volumes of bulk materials at the beginning of a process or after processing is complete.
