KWS Eliminates Dust Problem at Feed Mill

Introduction

In the US, cattle, hogs, and chicken consume almost 200 million tons of feed per year. Most animal feeds consist of corn, soybean meal, other grains, and minerals to create a healthy and nutritious diet.

Feed Mill was Experiencing Serious Material Loss and Potential Health Issues

Challenge

An animal feed supplier began taking in a powdery mineral via live bottom trucks. The material was then transferred to an open-air belt conveyor resulting in serious product loss and potential health issues for feed mill employees. An immediate solution was needed.

KWS Advantage

KWS technical sales specialists arrived at the feed mill, took field measurements, determined production needs and bulk material characteristics, and created a plan to replace the belt conveyor with a tubular screw feeder complete with hopper. The live bottom trucks could simply back up to and unload into the hopper.

KWS provided a new screw feeder with hopper that was immediately set in place and in full operation in less than 3 days. With spillage averaging about five hundred pounds per load, labor costs for cleanup and the employee health benefits from the dust free solution, the cost savings are well above $50,000 per month.

Testimonial

"Thank you KWS for the quick solution! Our production crew deeply appreciates the dust free zone."
