General Description

Challenge
Indorama requires screws for screw conveyors to have a 150-grit polished finish on all welds and surfaces. All welds must be dye penetrant tested to reveal potential surface imperfections. In addition to dye penetrant testing, all full penetration butt welds must be radiograph tested to check for weld imperfections. Only certified ASME certified welders are allowed to perform the welding. The screws requested by Indorama are 28-inch diameter with ½-inch thick 316 stainless-steel flights stretched to a 40-inch pitch and fitted on large diameter heavy-duty pipe.
KWS Advantage
Every welder at KWS is AWS and/or ASME certified to produce excellent quality welds. Flight to pipe welds were continuously welded on both sides to eliminate pits and crevices. KWS utilizes the Advanced Spiral Technology (AST), the only true sectional helical screw flight manufacturing system that has intelligence built in. The AST expands KWS capabilities exponentially by increasing the accuracy and consistency of forming large flights making the process more efficient. KWS has the capabilities to form large flights up to 48-inch in diameter and 1-inch thick material. The screw surfaces were ground and polished until a 150-grit surface finish was achieved. All polished screws are fully crated for shipment to protect the clean finish during transportation.
