KWS Replaces Aging Screw Conveyor at Kingsford Charcoal Plant
Challenge
Screw conveyors are used throughout the charcoal manufacturing process for conveying wood products, char and binding agents. The application is very harsh and heavy-duty equipment construction is required. Kingsford Charcoal needed to replace a large diameter screw conveyor based on specific design requirements. The new screw conveyor had to be on-site to coincide with a very precise installation schedule.

KWS went to the plant and gathered all pertinent information regarding the much-needed screw conveyor. Design requirements included heavy wall pipe, ½-inch thick screw flights with continuous welds and special insulated troughs. KWS immediately began manufacturing and delivered the new screw conveyor three days prior to the due date. Prior to shipment, every component was 100-percent inspected by ISO certified quality managers, eliminating any fit-up problems in the field.
