KWS Delivers Expedited Replacement Screw and Saves CertainTeed Gypsum $120,000 in Downtime
Challenge
Drywall is a panel board used in home and commercial construction. It is made of gypsum, fiberglass and other additives that are extruded between thick sheets of paper. Other commonly used terms for drywall are wallboard, sheet rock and gypsum board. Screw conveyors are used throughout the drywall manufacturing process. CertainTeed Gypsum in Seattle, WA experienced an unexpected failure of a conveyor screw and had no back up. Time was of the essence to get the line back up and running.
KWS Advantage
A local power transmission distributor and KWS worked together to meet the needs of CertainTeed. The new KWS screw was redesigned with bolt pads, schedule 80 pipe and thick flighting for reinforcing strength to prevent future failures. KWS manufactured and delivered the new screw in less than 2 days. The maintenance crew immediately installed the new KWS screw, keeping downtime to a minimum. The customer was 100-percent satisfied with the response from the local distributor and KWS.
