Introduction
Standard Bearings is an industrial distributor with multiple locations in Iowa and South Dakota. Founded in 1919, Standard Bearings has a strong reputation for solving power transmission and material handling problems. An aggregate supplier required a special motorized slide gate to control bulk material flow from a large hopper. Standard Bearings and KWS worked very closely to provide a solution that exceeded customer expectations.
Challenge
The slide gate was to be located beneath an aggregate hopper where plant personnel needed reliable remote operation without manual actuation. The gate had to withstand extreme abuse and be able to open and close under a headload of dense aggregate material. Also, the gate was needed immediately to avoid costly plant downtime.

Gate construction utilized abrasion-resistant materials. A high-torque drive generates sufficient force to open and close under load. An encoder located on the gate drive shaft allows for exact positioning. Engineering and manufacturing were expedited to meet the installation schedule of the customer.
