Custom Screw Conveyors Reduce Maintenance at Cora Texas Manufacturing

Introduction

Cora Texas Manufacturing in White Castle, LA has been producing raw sugar since 1817. Screw conveyors are used throughout the sugar refining process. After years of repeated repairs and maintenance during shutdown periods, Cora Texas decided to replace an aging screw conveyor system. Allied Bearing & Supply in Harahan, LA partnered with KWS to provide a custom-engineered solution designed to improve reliability and reduce maintenance requirements.

Challenge

The existing screw conveyor system had been in service for many years and required frequent repairs to remain operational. The unusual configuration required a direct replacement that would fit within the existing plant layout and interface with surrounding equipment. Since the screw conveyors were integral to production, minimizing downtime during installation was critical.

KWS Advantage

Allied Bearing and KWS supplied a complete system to meet exact specifications. The new custom screw conveyors replicated the unique arrangement, allowing one conveyor to feed sugar directly into the center of the second conveyor through a side inlet while fitting seamlessly into the existing process. Integral leg ribbon screw flights prevent sugar buildup on the screw center pipes, which can reduce the volumetric capacity of a screw conveyor.

All components were shipped loose for field assembly and installation. Through effective project management, engineering coordination, and manufacturing execution, KWS completed and shipped the project 14 days ahead of schedule. The new system provides improved reliability, reduces ongoing maintenance requirements, and helps ensure long-term operational performance for Cora Texas.

Customer Testimonial

“This was one of my favorite projects. Monty and I worked for more than 15 years to get Cora Texas to replace this system. We finally had the opportunity to earn the business and earned the order. The KWS team did an outstanding job from start to finish.”
