General Description

Most of the waste plastic from commercial, industrial and municipal sources is placed in landfills. The US generates over 35 million tons of plastic waste every year. Due to the enormous volume of waste generated, various waste management companies are developing commercial processes for converting waste plastics into fuels. Specially developed processes convert waste plastics into high grade fuel through pyrolysis.

As part of the waste-to-energy process, KWS Thermal Processors convey waste products under high temperature and pressure to allow hydrocarbons to be extracted and recovered. Typically, inert carbon-based char is a byproduct of the process. Operating temperatures can range from 600 to 1,600-degrees F. Through pyrolysis, hydrocarbons are recovered, and char is removed from the process using KWS Thermal Processors.

KWS Advantages

Engineers from KWS work closely with waste management companies to create the correct design and solution for their needs. Since every process and application is different, a very thorough understanding is of utmost importance. The KWS engineering team collaborates on every detail to ensure proper design and fit-up before manufacturing equipment. The up-front efforts make for seamless installation and performance in the field.

Special Features

KWS Thermal Processors are designed to withstand temperatures up to 1,950-degrees F and internal pressures up to 50-psig. Equipment can be manufactured from various stainless steels and high nickel alloys such as 310 stainless steel, Hastelloy or Inconel. Thermal processor housings can be designed in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code and certified as a pressure vessel.

Every aspect of the design is considered. KWS designs Thermal Processors with special saddle supports for thermal expansion. Drive units are located away from excessive temperature to prevent failure. Special mechanical shaft seals for drive and tail shafts prevent any pressure or bulk material leakage.
