General Description
The Santa Rita Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) is in the City of Durango in La Plata County, Colorado and has nominal capacity of 3.0 million gallons per day (MGD). Recent improvements included headworks, primary clarification, digestion, solids handling improvements, and new UV disinfection. The upgrades increased the capacity 3.28 MGD.
The new biosolids dewatering building was constructed with two rotary presses, conveyors, filrate tanks, filtrate pumps, controls, and odor control. KWS Environmental supplied a shaftless screw conveyor load out system to convey dewatered biosolids from the rotary presses to dumpsters.
Design Parameters
- Product Type: Dewatered Biosolids
- Material Density: 64 Lbs. per Cubic Foot
- Capacity: 135 Cubic Feet per Hour
- Duty: 5 days a week, 8 Hours per Day
KWS Advantages
KWS Environmental began assisting the consulting engineer on the design around three years before equipment startup. A professional engineer from KWS visited the engineer’s office early in the design phase to help determine plant layout, equipment sizing, and special features. KWS Environmental was selected by the contractor due to best overall value to the project. KWS utilized the latest 3D CAD modeling techniques to help the engineer resolve support and equipment interference issues during the submittal process. As a result, the installation phase went very smoothly. A certified KWS representative performed equipment startup and operator training before the system was put into successful service.
Special Features
KWS Environmental engineered a shaftless screw conveyor load out system utilizing abrasion resistant spirals and UHMW liners to handle the moist, clumpy dewatered biosolids. All exterior components of the conveyors and supports were manufactured from 304 stainless steel to prevent corrosion. The inclined shaftless screw conveyor was designed with a tubular housing to reduce material fallback and increase conveying effectiveness. Dump trucks are evenly filled by utilizing electrically actuated slide gates. The multi-turn actuators on the slide gates provide high torque and reliable operation.
Testimonial
"We are currently using the KWS screw conveyors you provided to load the dewatered sludge into dump trucks. The conveyors are working great!"
