General Description

The Abington Regional Water Authority (ARWA) was founded as a municipal authority by joint acts of Clarks Summit Borough and South Abington Township in 1967. The Authority functions as an independent agency of the Commonwealth charged with the operation and maintenance of the treatment facility.

South Abington WWTP required a means for distributing sludge processed by a centrifuge into a dumpster. KWS designed and built a dumpster loading conveyor with isolation gates, inlet and discharge chutes that met their needs.

Design Parameters

  1. Material: Dewatered Biosolids
  2. Solids Content: 18 to 24-percent by weight
  3. Material Density: 55 to 65-Lbs. per Cubic foot
  4. Maximum Design Capacity: 4.5 Wet Tons per Hour

KWS Advantages

KWS designed the shaftless screw conveyor to meet the specific space constraints associated with the dewatering building design.

In particular, KWS coordinated the design so that the equipment could be suspended from the ceiling in the loading bay while optimizing distribution in the dumpster with the fewest possible slide gates.

Special Features

KWS shaftless conveyors are designed and manufactured to be robust, reliable and perfectly suited for the unique environment and operating conditions associated with a Environmental plant. In particular, a KWS utilizes a proprietary high strength micro-alloy spiral operating at an optimal speed to ensure a long, trouble-free life with few operational issues. When a conveyor is located in a difficult to access location, quality and reliability are paramount and save the End User time and money over the life of the equipment.

The KWS isolating gates included stainless steel rollers with bronze-bushed bearings for low resistance gate movement. The gate actuators were designed to meet the specific application requirements including opening and closing speed as well as interfacing with the plant control system.
