General Description

A major coffee producer needed a solution for effectively and efficiently metering ground coffee from a silo into one of two locations in their packaging process. KWS provided a reversible screw feeder with a central inlet, which proved to be the ideal solution. The reversible screw feeder was part of a much larger system provided by Shick USA. Shick is known throughout the world for their expertise in the food processing industry.

KWS worked with engineers at Shick to properly size and design a screw feeder that was optimized for the end user’s process. Our extensive experience with metering and conveying in the food industry ensured that the stringent design parameters for food grade equipment were met and exceeded. Based on past experience, Shick had great confidence that KWS would provide a screw feeder to complement their total system supply to Starbucks.

Special Features

The 304 stainless steel food grade screw feeder was polished to a 150-grit finish. The screw received a full polish as well as all internal welds on the trough. KWS utilized shrink fit and seal welded drive and end shafts in order to eliminate any cracks and crevices that normally would be present with CEMA standard bolted connections. The shrouds were fully welded to the covers to eliminate any place where ground coffee could gather. Special air purged Cinch seals were used on each end to seal the shafts. The drive unit had a food grade stainless steel finish to allow for periodic wash downs.
