Screw Conveyor for Bayer Crop Science Holds Internal Pressure
Introduction
Bayer Crop Science is a global leader in agricultural products and technologies serving growers around the world. At a major manufacturing facility in Luling, LA, Bayer produces a variety of pesticides. Screw conveyors are used regularly to convey dry, powdered raw materials used in the process.
Challenge
Raw materials used for making pesticides can be extremely corrosive and potentially toxic. Bayer required a replacement screw conveyor manufactured to meet the demanding requirements of their process. Bayer, Motion and KWS worked together to design a unique screw conveyor appropriate for the application.
KWS Advantage
KWS designed and manufactured a 316 stainless steel screw conveyor with a large inlet section to accept bulk material discharged from the silo dust collector. 316 stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance to the various chemicals used throughout the process. Special clamped covers and Teflon gaskets were provided to maintain pressure containment as dust collectors operate under vacuum. A speed switch was included to monitor conveyor rotation and help protect upstream and downstream equipment. KWS delivered a complete made-to-order solution built for reliable performance and easy integration.
