Improved Trough Design with Drop Bottoms for Zinc Recycler
One of the by-products of the steel making process is electric arc furnace (EAF) dust, whichcontains zinc and other heavy metal elements. American Zinc Recycling (AZR) is the only manufacturer in the world that produces zinc solely from recycled sources. Zinc is now considered a critical mineral by the United States, a net importer of the metal. EAF dust is transformed into a valuable commodity that is recycled to make thousands of industrial products.
Challenge
AZR utilizes screw conveyors throughout the process of extracting zinc from EAF dust. EAF dustis extremely abrasive and difficult to convey. Maintenance is a major issue and is performed daily. AZR needed a way to make screw conveyor maintenance easier.
KWS Advantage
KWS engineered, built, and delivered replacement components within two weeks to meetAZR’s needs. The new replacement troughs had three drop bottom sections with hinges on one side and heavy-duty Witte clamps on the opposite side to keep the trough sealed during operation. Safety bolts were installed on the clamped side to prevent unauthorized personnel from accessing the conveyors. The improved KWS design enhances the ease of cleanout and efficiency of maintenance.
Testimonial
"The new and improved KWS trough sections have helped with our maintenance tremendously. The design is working great!"
