Batten Bar Hold Downs
Intermediate hanger bearings support multiple screw sections in a screw conveyor. While hanger bearings are useful, certain applications require a screw conveyor to operate without them. For example, wood fibers and other stringy bulk materials tend to form clumps and can plug at a hanger bearing in a standard screw conveyor. For these applications, a shaftless or close-coupled screw is the best solution. Close-coupled screws are shafted screws that are connected to form a continuous helix, very similar to a shaftless screw. Both are designed to operate without hanger bearings with the screw supported in the bottom of the trough on a wear liner.
Hold Down Bolts to Sides of Trough for Easy Removal
Proper alignment of a screw conveyor prevents excessive fatigue and failure. Hold downs are used to keep shaftless and close-coupled screws in alignment. Screws tend to “climb out” of the trough in the direction of rotation. In addition, bulk materials can sometimes get under the screw, causing the screw to lift and forcing the screw out of alignment.
KWS Batten Bar Hold Downs keep shaftless and close-coupled screws in proper alignment. The hold down is located directly over the centerline of the screw, keeping the screw in place regardless of rotational direction. The hold down is supported by batten bars which are bolted to the sides of the trough for easy removal and maintenance.
Features
Robust Design – KWS Batten Bar Hold Downs are located directly over the centerline of the screw, eliminating vertical movement.
Removability – KWS Batten Bar Hold Downs bolt to the sides of the trough and can be removed with hand tools.
Benefits
Long Term Operation – KWS Batten Bar Hold Downs keep shaftless and close-coupled screws in proper alignment to prevent fatigue and failure.
Ease of Maintenance – KWS Batten Bar Hold Downs are easily removed for access to the screws and liners.
