Alternative Hanger Bearings to Plastech
Question
I’ve used the HGB2262P Plastech hanger bearing in my KWS screw conveyors for years. Since Plastech bearings have been discontinued, I’m concerned about finding a similar hanger bearing that fits and performs as well. Can you recommend a replacement? Will it install without modifications, and will it handle my food-grade applications like before?
Answer
For a direct, food grade replacement to the Plastech GGB2262P hanger bearing, KWS recommends the UHMW HGB2262UHMW. UHMW hanger bearing is dimensionally compatible with the Plastech hanger bearing, installs without modifications, and is FDA approved. UHMW is water resistant, self lubricating, and more chemically stable—it won’t swell like Plastech. It performs equally well in food grade, low abrasion service and maintains KWS’s high standards. KWS keeps hundreds of UHMW hanger bearings in stock for immediate, same-day shipment.

UHMW Hanger Bearings are Water-Resistant and FDA Approved
If UHMW isn’t suitable for your application, KWS recommends bronze hanger bearings as an excellent alternative. Bronze HGB2262B hanger bearings are dimensionally identical to Plastech and UHMW. Bronze offers outstanding wear resistance, handles higher temperatures, and performs well in dry or abrasive applications. Bronze is not suitable for all food-grade applications.
UHMW Hanger Bearings Perform Well in Low Abrasion Service
Bronze is ideal for environments where engineered plastic materials may degrade or deform over time. Like all KWS components, our bronze bearings are made in the USA and available for immediate shipment. Our team can help determine if bronze is the best choice based on your bulk material and operating conditions—just give us a call.
