What is the purpose of a “Quick Key” on a screw conveyor?
A Quick key is a removable section of the pipe designed to save time replacing screw conveyor components. Quick keys can be unbolted in place with the old component simply removed and the new component installed. Although never recommended for the drive end, quick keys allow for direct replacement without the downtime associated with moving auxiliary components. It is important to note that not all applications are a good fit for quick keys because pipe strength is reduced and torque requirements must be evaluated; however, quick keys do offer a big advantage in hard to reach or tight areas, like hoppers, bins or silos. Quick keys are especially useful in long screw conveyors.
Quick keys are an engineered solution to specific applications. Precise cutting and milling tools using multi-axis CNC machines have made quick keys a close tolerance, highly engineered product.
