Continuous Welding vs Skip Welding

Application requirements establish screw conveyor design. Bulk material properties determine materials of construction and horsepower requirements, as well as how screw flights are welded to the pipe.

For light duty applications such as grain that flows easily, skip welds are suitable. Typical skip welds consist of 2” long intermittent welds on every other flight of the screw. Skip welded screws are less expensive to manufacture allowing for improved delivery times.

Heavy duty applications such as cement that are sluggish require continuous welds. Continuous welds connect the flighting to the pipe for the full length of the screw either on one or both sides. Continuous welds ensure that the flighting cannot be removed even under the harshest conditions.

All KWS welders are ASME or AWS certified yielding superior weld quality, and maximizing up time. KWS stocks many different sizes of CEMA standard screws with skip, or continuous welding available for immediate shipment. With the fastest lead times in the industry KWS will meet or exceed all delivery expectations.
