General Description

The Beaver Creek wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) serves over 22,000 customers and over 100 square miles. The plant is permitted for 9.7 million gallons per day (MGD). Recent improvements included expansion of the dewatering process to include a new automated system with two centrifuges and solids load out conveyors. The new system dewaters the sludge and directly feeds the KWS loadout system, which is designed to feed a container or tractor trailer. Due to winter conditions, the load out building is heated and cooled to protect the equipment. The sludge load out system included three shaftless screw conveyors, structural supports, three slide gates, ultra-sonic sensing, and a conveyor control panel.

Design Parameters

  1. Product Type: Dewatered Biosolids
  2. Material Density: 60 Lbs. per Cubic Foot
  3. Capacity: 105 Cubic Feet per Hour
  4. Duty: 5 Days a Week, 8 Hours per Day

KWS Advantages

Prior solids loadout was performed using a front end loader. This method was very inefficient and messy. The new dewatering and load out system is completely contained and automated, creating a very clean and efficient process. Reduced operator intervention and direct loading of sludge greatly reduces the man hours associated with operating the equipment. KWS Environmental was selected to provide a load out system with multiple shaftless screw conveyors to load trucks or containers. KWS designed the new load out system to fit in the limited space allowed. Controls were provided to supply the operators with manual and automatic operation of the system. KWS also quickly assisted the Contractor during the installation phase to make any adjustments to fit the new equipment in the existing building. The flexibility of conveyance design has been one of the strengths of KWS Environmental. KWS coordinated with the centrifuge manufacturer, contractor, and Engineer to ensure the new system met expectations.

Special Features

KWS Environmental shaftless screw conveyors are designed and constructed for longevity and minimal service. KWS shaftless spirals are the hardest, strongest and toughest in the industry. Each flanged drive shaft is milled from solid bar stock, which KWS guarantees for the lifespan of the equipment. KWS designed the structural supports to be bolt-together so no welding or field modification was required. Each conveyor has under-speed sensors and emergency pull cord safety stop systems.

To better protect our customers, each conveyor cover is secured with safety bolts that require a special tool to remove. Electrically-operated slide gates open and close automatically to evenly load containers or tractor trailers. Ultra-sonic level sensing determines the fill level so loads are maximized.

Testimonial

"The conveyor startup went well, thanks for coordinating with everyone to ensure a trouble-free solution."
