KWS Overflow Covers
Personnel safety and equipment protection are critical concerns in bulk material handling applications. When material fails to properly discharge from a screw conveyor, buildup can occur at the discharge point, resulting in equipment damage, process interruptions, and potential safety hazards.
KWS offers special overflow covers to help protect personnel and conveying equipment by relieving pressure created by abnormal material accumulation. Overflow covers are mounted on the discharge end of a screw conveyor and remain closed during normal operation. If material does not discharge properly and begins to accumulate, the hinged cover automatically lifts to allow excess material to escape, reducing the risk of equipment damage.
Features
Safety Interlock Switch – Overflow covers are equipped with a safety interlock switch and actuator key that monitor the cover position.
Hinged Cover Design – A heavy-duty piano hinge is used to connect the overflow cover to neighboring bolted cover section.
Optional Counterweight – Depending on the application and operating environment, a counterweight can be installed on the free end of the overflow cover.
Benefits
Equipment Protection & Personnel Safety – In the event of an overflow condition, the interlock switch removes power from the conveyor when the actuator key is withdrawn from the switch, helping prevent equipment damage and costly downtime. Also, by eliminating the hazard of a cover being open while the conveyor is operating, the safety of plant personnel is assured.
Alignment and Durability – Piano hinge attachment provides a reliable pivot point for the cover section to relieve pressure while maintaining alignment with the conveyor.
Consistent operation – Counterweights keep the overflow cover securely closed during normal operation. The cover will only open when excessive material buildup generates sufficient pressure, preventing activation from wind, vibration, or other environmental factors.
