Dead End Shaft for Screw Conveyors
Introduction
Traditional screw conveyors utilize a tail shaft that extends through the conveyor trough end plate, external seal, and bearing. On vertical, inclined, or flood-loaded conveyors, this configuration often results in material leakage, seepage, or premature failure of seals and bearings. Handling of high-moisture materials increases the severity of these issues.
The KWS Dead End Shaft eliminates these problems through a proprietary design that requires no external seal or bearing. The shaft is mounted internally with a gasketed, leak-free plate, projecting inward rather than outward. The tail end of the screw contains an internal bushing that provides the bearing surface and rotates with the screw. Purging with air, nitrogen, or various types of grease extends service life. The internal bushings and shaft design minimize maintenance requirements and allow for simple replacement.
