General Description

Chelford City is located in Fort Bend county and is part of the City of Houston. With over 2,800 connections, the Chelford City WWTP services thousands of residents and businesses. Chelford City built and maintains its own waste water treatment facility, which is also a part of the larger Houston area waste water treatment system.

As part of a plant upgrade, KWS Environmental provided an extensive load out system for biosolids which combined the use of belt conveyors and shafted screw conveyors. The new system was designed for a minimum of 12 tons per hour of solids. Working together, Chelford City, the consulting engineer and KWS Environmental designed a load out system to evenly load multiple bins or trucks without any additional manpower by the operators. The load out system has been in continuous operation since 2007 with no downtime and minimal maintenance.

KWS Advantages

KWS Environmental designed, manufactured, supplied and commissioned a biosolids load out system that integrated shafted screw conveyors, a belt conveyor, support structures and other control elements. The system was designed to fit in the limited space allowed by the dewatering load-out building while effectively loading two large roll-off containers or trucks. The combination of conveyance technologies and engineering expertise has been one of the strengths of KWS Environmental.

Special Features

Two belt filter presses discharged dewatered biosolids to a KWS flex-wall belt conveyor. The flex-wall belt conveyor transferred the biosolids in an “S” path to the load out screw conveyors. The “S” path belt conveyor is a very efficient means to lift and transfer material and eliminates the need for multiple conveyors. The belt conveyor discharged into a shafted screw conveyor used to transfer the biosolids to the distribution screw conveyors. Screw conveyors are the perfect solution for transferring bulk materials to multiple discharge points. The transfer screw conveyor was designed to feed one of two distribution screw conveyors. The system was designed to fill one roll-off bin or truck at a time. After a bin or truck is full, the biosolids could be rerouted by simply closing a slide gate and diverting the material to the second bin or truck. Multiple discharges on the distribution screw conveyors ensured even loading of the biosolids for maximum volume.

KWS manually activated slide gates were used to control the flow of biosolids. All the KWS equipment was hot-dipped galvanized for corrosion resistance. KWS designed and supplied the complete support structure for the conveyors, eliminating any unnecessary third-party involvement during the design and installation processes.

Testimonial

"This job was installed with no issues. The conveyors are running well."
