KWS Environmental Loadout System No. 6 – Storage Hopper with Live Bottom Arrangement

Depending on plant layout, multiple dewatering devices produce residuals that either discharge directly into a temporary storage bin or are conveyed to storage via transfer conveyors. The storage bin can be loaded evenly to maximize storage volume by use of a leveling screw or distribution conveyor. A leveling screw is located inside the storage bin and used to level the residual pile. Another method is to use a distribution conveyor above the storage bin with multiple discharge points to evenly distribute residuals. Storage bins are designed with minimum sidewall angles to ensure proper flow of residuals. A multiple screw feeder, known as a live bottom, is located on the bottom of the bin and meters residuals to trucks or dumpsters. The live bottom can utilize multiple discharge points with slide gates to aid in distributing solids in the truck or dumpster.

The KWS Environmental Loadout System No. 6 is an innovative and flexible method of transferring residuals from multiple dewatering devices to multiple dumpsters or trucks. The dumpster or truck loading stations can also be located long distances from the dewatering devices, depending upon plant layout. Storage bins can range in volume from 400 to over 13,000 cubic feet. Both shafted and shaftless screw conveyors are ideal for transferring residuals to the storage bin. Shafted screw feeders are ideal for use in the live bottoms.

Features

Live Bottom – Live bottom screw design utilizes two or more screws to span the full width and length of the bin. Both shaftless and shafted screws can be selected for live bottom applications. Individual drive units with variable speed controls are used to power each screw.

Storage Capacity – Storage bin can be designed for a variety of plant layouts and requirements. Bin designs can range from rectangular to cylindrical. Typically, storage capacity ranges from 12 to 96 hours.

Integrated Controls Package – Storage Hopper with live bottom can be controlled using a main control panel or through interfaces from a remote panel or SCADA system. Loading bay arrangement can be controlled automatically or manually, depending upon system requirements.

Benefits

Fast and Even Loading – Live bottom design eliminates residual bridging in the bin and promotes mass flow. Load out rate can be controlled by variable speed drives. Slide gates distribute residuals evenly in trucks or dumpsters. Complete loading can be accomplished in as little as two minutes.

Operational Flexibility – Temporary residual storage creates operational flexibility. Residuals are stored temporarily in the bin while full trucks or dumpsters are replaced with empty ones. Storage volume is determined by plant needs for typical maintenance and downtime. Since the system is completely enclosed, direct contact between operations personnel and potentially unsafe bulk materials is eliminated and odor emissions reduced.

Automation – Control system is designed for a variety of control schemes. Enhanced functionality and sensing can be accomplishing by integrating devices such as truck scales, level sensors, load cells, truck position sensors and much more. Once the system is tested and the parameters are set, dumpsters or trucks can be evenly loaded with a minimum of operator oversight.
